The clutch pedal in my '97 900SE coupe is hard to depress, as if there was a very strong spring underneath. It is not crunchy or otherwise defective in feel. I could easily detect the engagement point, and do not have problems driving the car in any kind of traffic. I don't get a sore leg from clutching. Clutch engagement is smooth, with no sign of slippage.
Regarding SWEDECAR's assertion that 89K means time for a new clutch, I would beg to differ. I have driven manually trannies since I was a kid (I drove tractors on our family farm) so I'm not worried about poor technique shortening the lifespan of my clutch. I don't see a lot of people on this BB complaining of their clutches blowing at 90K. Also, I'm pretty sure that clutch replacement is not called out in the recommended 95K service list. I'm sure new transmission oil would help, but I don't think a new clutch kit is warranted yet.
I could be wrong, of course, but that's just my 2 cents.
