Not only the clutch fork pivot bearings but the surface Posted by SWEDECAR [Email] (#112) [Profile/Gallery] (more from SWEDECAR) on Wed, 3 Sep 2003 19:12:11 In Reply to: Re: Correction: to me, stiff = hard clutch pedal, sean, Wed, 3 Sep 2003 16:50:37 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
of the throwout bearing plays a big roll.
The nomerous fingers on the pressure plate eats away on the throwout bearing surface and hollows the bearing out. That means that the surface area between fingers and bearing gets bigger and bigger creating drag when pedal is pushed down.
As the clutch disc wears down, the pressure plate fingers are also pointing out more and more toward throwout bearing creating a different angle for the bearing and fork to overcome.
So all in all, the NG900 have one thing that is better than the old ones. It doesn't wear out the clutch pedal that the old models did requiring welding or a new pedal, but otherwise everything else is of lesser quality and design.
And as a result, they went back to the hydraulic clutch in 98 at least getting rid of some problems.
