I had 2 Saabs while I was a college student and graduate student. Had a 1986 9000Turbo and a 1993 900S. They were great cars, but even though I did all the repairs and maintenance myself, I would say in retrospect that I would have been better off driving a cheaper car and saving my money. The cost of maintenance and repairs on a car I wanted to maintain in top condition was at times challenging. It probably would have been better to drive a Honda, etc and do nothing but put gas in it and throw it away at graduation, than to have spent to much of what little cash I had on my Saabs. However, I did learn a truckload about auto maintenance b/c I taught myself to do things I had never done before to save labor costs, so I guess I got a secondary education in auto maintenance along with a BS and a doctorate.
