I bought my '96 900SEt with 160,000 miles on it. Judging by the oil change sticker in the corner of the windshield, it had been run on dino. I switched to Castrol Syntec Blend 10-30. Went with the Castrol mainly because I've had good experience w/ Castrol in bikes and cars in the past, and when I took it to a Saab dealer for a post purchase 30k tuneup, that's what they put in it.
I've got 180k+ on it now, with no leaks. Had to renew the drain plug crush washer once, because it dripped a bit. But I usually don't replace it every oil change (3k).
I'm hesitant to go full synthetic, because I've had higher mileage motorcycles (30-40k) that have leaked when switched - but with the tranny bathed in engine oil, bikes tend to put more strain on an oil, too.
