*Clocks could be obviously linked with the navigational GPS system, so the local time was automatically displayed, -but this is probably already a feature in standard navigation systems.
*This onboard computer would be completely self contained and would require no special wiring, etc. You could in fact use it in the DIN radio slot in your vintage Saab 94 and then immediately slip it out (it would have to be extremely removable, without tools for security and updates) and put it into the new Saab you just got off the lot. All of this without altering anything, except removing the original radio and mounting a receiving sleeves. Interestingly this type of I-pod, though initially expensive, could be transfered from vehicle to vehicle until you just HAD to have the next generation.
*It would be a cinch to add sat-radio as a feature and even customize the radio presets to automatically be set to local networks according to genre and info provided by GPS. Ex: If you prefer NPR and you were making a road trip from Kansas City to San Francisco, your car's I-pod would automatically change your radio's presets as you drove according to where the GPS told the I-pod you were. No more pushing "seek" on your radio to try to find a station, or frantically paging through NPR's station guide! You wouldn't have to miss an episode of Car Talk, -not to mention that if you did, because you were out in the middle of Nevada, you could easily pod-cast it.
*With no significant additional wiring (no more so than speakers or engine temp guages) it would be possible to add inside and outside temperatures, etc. Compass would already be a feature of the GPS. The display could be completely customized to show analog or digital auxilary guages such as Voltage, oil pressure and temp if the driver prefered.
*One of the best parts is that if the "Auto-Pod" became lost, stolen or damaged, no problem (aside from the financial end) simply replace it and programme it with I-pods backup programme on your home computer.
