question for brett?, or suggestions from others..(long) Posted by baggsly [Email] (#2350) [Profile/Gallery] (more from baggsly) on Tue, 20 Jun 2006 09:58:08 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
i have a 1990 C900T. it is/was (i think)cherry red. which under the hatch liner and inside doors is still the nice dark red. the outside however has suffered heavily in the cali sun.
i'm guessing prior owners didn't do any paint maintenance. as a result, it is very faded, very thin in places (edges and some flat areas) and heavily soiled with stuff getting on car and in paint (some black spots, perhaps sap, mold? who knows).
i've given up washing the car, as everytime i dry it i get paint on the rag, so it's wearing off. while i would like to repaint it in the oem colour, that is down the road sometime. i don't think i could clay it without rubbing thru the paint, so getting embedded stuff out may be a problem for now. so the windows and lights get cleaned, and the rest of the car gets rain or an occaisional diy carwash with no drying.
the questions:
-is there anything i can do to protect paint from gettting more damaged, ie thorough cleaning/claying which while perhaps removing more paint once done i can wax to preserve paint.
-any effective cleaners out there that are not abrasive (oxymoron i know) to clean the paint up now?
-if any of this is possible, cheap liquid wax, carnuba wax, brand, what would be easiest to apply/use without having to rub/buff the bejesus out of it to keep paint on car and not on rag. no, i don't have a power buffer/polisher.
-am i doing more harm than good by not washing the car? yes, i am guilty of paint neglect 'cuz i don't know what to do.
thanks for reading and any suggestions would be appreciated.
mark :-)
