Don,
I took the clearcoat of my 93 Aero rims. I got JASCO Premium Paint & Epoxy remover in a gold and red can at home depot. I used an old toothbrush and spread it on the lip being careful not to get it on the painted section. The clearcoat bubbled and I used thin scotch brite pads to remove the clearcoat. I then used Meguires metal polish on the aluminum. I started with a mild pad which I wore out and then used a heavy duty pad since that is what I had. Although I was really careful with the heavy duty pad it was rough enough to put fine scratches in the aluminum, just needed more polishing with the metal polish. They look alot better now without the peeling clear coat. What has been hard is getting the corrosion discoloration out of the aluminum, I wish I had removed the clearcoat along time ago.
