A lower end Nikon Coolpix would be my recommendation. 2 or 3 megapixel would be fine.

As FauxPaws said, the video thing is a gimmick and I wouldn't bother with it.

optical zoom is real zoom. Digital zoom is not zoom at all, but just a cropping and resizing in the camera that hurts image quality.

I bought my wife a coolpix 2500 and we are pleased with the image quality of it as long as the lens is kept clean. I like the nikonview software that comes with it for viewing thumbnails of the images, viewing images, doing slideshows, transferring images from the camera, printing contact sheets and printing images. The only thing it doesnt have that some other camera might include is panorama stitching software, which is also a bit of a gimmick IMHO.

I also have a Nikon D100 digital camera, F4s, 8008, sb24, and a whole bunch of lenses.
