I expected, I appreciate your input. I think I'll stay with Mobil 1 0W-40 for the '02 9-3 until lease end (April '05) and keep changing it every 5k with a Mobil 1 filter (currently at 16.5K). And that boring, but very reliable I30 (with no DI cassette problems, no head gasket problems, no pulley problems, but a sure cure for insomnia on the road as compared to the 9-3) will get Mobil 1 5W-30 every six months.
There's been no oil analysis after 34K on the Infiniti, but I've got the Blackstone kit and am more curious than anything on the oil after 7k between changes. If I keep the Saab in 2005 (estimating 38K), I'll start the Blackstone Labs routine.
Thanks again.
By the way, I've been using Mobil 1 (formerly an Amsoil user) since 1984. I distinctly recall a time at my independent mechanic's shop 18 years agow hen my '79 Toyota Corolla liftback (1.6L - 2TC engine) was in for a tune-up and adjustment of the valve clearance. There happened to be another identical car in for the same thing. He used Valvoline oil (I'm not taking a shot) and I, Mobil 1. I had 74K on the odometer, he - 29K. With both valve covers off, mine at 74K looked three times better (cleaniness and wear) than his at 29K. I know - oil change intervals and how you drive have a signficant bearing on the outcome, but I have yet to forget those valve trains!
