It seems to me that a big part of Saab's profitability problem has been due to the strong Swedish Krona vs other currencies over the last few years. Good for importing - but not so good for exporters. That is something that Saab has no control over - they pump out great cars & continue to lose money.
The strategy of making 92 in Japan and 97 in the US will stabilize this problem a bit more for Saab and make it less vulnerable to future currency fluctuations.
