Concerning Frozen's comment on why I didn't want projection HDTV -
Before this a.m. everyone I saw had terrible picture quality when you got off-center and it wans't completely dark in the room. Keep in mind I haven't been shopping for a monitor in years and I must say they have improved dramatically. I'm starting to become a convert however. We watch a lot of action shows and movies and bang for the buck gets me more screen.
The next concern is size. I actually saw a somewhat "table-top" Toshiba 46" Projection model at Best Buy. Problem is I have a whole rack of electronics that need to go under the monitor, no really, I have doors on either side of the wall and my main speaker are not magnetically sheilded so I have to account for that.
So it's coming down to a 32" HDTV tube (about $900)or a 40 something projection (about $1400). Vendors will probably be Circuit City or Costco.
How about some comments from you rear projection owners. Sales people are telling me the guns need to be adjusted at least once a year.
And now a rant -what is up with all this silver trim! What about black or dark grey? Some cosmetics engineer obviously thought they were coming up with something clever and different - and they actually collected a paycheck for that moment of stupidity! Thanks, I feel better now!
Doug P "Screenless" and still open to suggestions
