Lucky guy. I studied in London (LSE '93) and worked there (Merrill Lynch '95).
Beer is excellent. Be prepared to acquire a taste for warm beer!
At some point you will feel the urge for a good old fashioned American style burger. At that point, the Hard Rock in Mayfair is the place to go.
Good bars and clubs in Soho. Things close early, though. I used to take LONG intoxicated walks home because I couldn't afford a cab.
As someone else pointed out, Brugge is a beautiful town and a short train ride from Brussels. Personally, I wasn't a huge fan of Brussels when I visited, but I was only there for about 18 hours -- long enough to eat a waffle and smoke a couple Cubans.
Paris is the obvious major continental destination close to London. Try to get there for a weekend.
Prague is the best city in Europe. They like Americans and things are cheap. Great Pilsen-style beer there, too.
