Article in Roundel about MB having to settle a class action from folks who said their cars were damaged because they relied on the flexible service indicator but weren't told that synth oil was required to make those intervals.

In case you've wondered, MB said their indicator system is preset at 10K and adjusts upward depending on favorable conditions. Some intervals went as far as 20K, with the average being 12K. And no, drivers didn't miss the fine print in the owners manual, it recommends dino oil only.

MB is giving 350K owners of 1998-2001 cars a coupon for a free oil change and doing $20 million in engine repairs. This brilliant flexible system was supposedly designed to help lower owner maintenance costs and reduce used oil issues. Yeah, right, has nothing to do with MBUSA paying for service visits does it?
