about the decline in First on Air France?
Sheesh.
Sure, some of the drinks from those cute drive up stands are pretty average. But, er, to live in a city that harbors places like Vivace and Hines Public Market, and use words like never, always, 100%...ummm...
That's not a universally held opinion....
Here's an excerpt from a review of Hines, where I introduced my daughter to real espresso this summer:
<<Hip, casual and relaxed. That's the best way to describe Hines. No pretentions, just coffee. John Hornall and John Sanders were still out of town when I stopped by so there was no roasting going on but I can imagine what it must be like. Regulars slouched in the couch while John roasts beans behind them, a line forming out the door for espresso and more regulars sitting at the table reading the Seattle Times. What a great way to spend a morning!
Behind the bar was the now famous Bronwen Serna. A very cool, relaxed, friendly and entertaining hipster chick, about 5'2" and with short black hair. You've seen her in pictures and on the news and there she was making me a macchiatto. Besides winning the 2002 Western Regional Barista Championship, her interests include environmental issues and would prefer to see the proposed ten cents from I-77 go to helping the impoverished children of coffee growing countries.
Now, about that macchiatto. Delicious. Just the right balance of espresso with the smoothness of foamed milk. If I can make drinks like this, I'll feel like a king. Maybe it's the caliber of the barista (and with Bronwen you know this is the highest caliber) but I can't seem to order an espresso drink and NOT get latte art. The way the CoffeeGeeks talk about latte art and the way Vivace immortalizes them with photos and dates on their wall was making me think that latte art is something that is incredibly elusive. But here's Bronwen making drink after drink with beautiful latte art on each one. I'm amazed.>>
You live in the area, right?
Is it spelled jayded or jaided, or....
Best,
Greg
