I think you're out of luck if you don't want to use another head unit (I'm assuming 9-3 doesn't have aux in) You could use one of those units that runs a wire from the tape deck.
I wouldn't be afraid of the loss of sound quality from the FM transmitter, do you really think it will make that much of a difference? If so, then you might want to consider that MP3's are of lesser sound quality too. Not sure if an in-dash record player is available though.
