9-3 vs 9-5

I test drove the 03 Saab 9-3 Arc and the 03 9-5 Linear (both auto) today. Both fit my budget given the discounts offered on these models. I am looking for a car with good power, I don't want to go racing with it, and good comfort since we do a lot of long distance driving. I have two kids, 12 and 6, so rear seat comfort is an issue. The 9-3 seems more powerfull and responsive but firm ride and the 9-5 softer ride and more space. The sales person could offer me no assistance, I new more about the cars from my research than he did!! So, I needs some opinions for those who know these cars. Which one would make the best long distance car with good economy and enough power. What will you choose? Is the 9-5 going of the market? Is it under powered, @185 hp, is it worth having since it has more space and comfort?
I will apppreciate you comments, since I don't know Saab, but I was very impressed with the ride, both cars was more fun to drive than anything else in the price class I was considering.
