My recommendation is, with the need for 3-4 passengers, the 9-5 is the way to go. I have an '03 9-5 Arc. On a 1500 mile trip this past summer, I came to really appreciate its interior size, especially for my kids (6 & 10). When it was in for service this past September, dealer gave me a loaner '03 9-3. It was a nice car, handled very nicely, and responded adequately to my right foot inputs. However, on a 400 mile Labor Day trip to Tahoe, it was definately too small inside for the kids to enjoy an extended driving trip. I also like the interior and dashboard layout of the 9-5 better, though that's probably more a personal thing.
