Having owned both, I would recommend the 9-5. It is a more solid car and better engineered in some ways. The back seat folds flat, the sunroof doesn't buffet, the stereo is better (particularly the Harmon Kardon system), the engine has more torque, and the overall feel is more solid and quiet. All the little levers, switches, carpet, etc. are higher quality and more expensive. A better highway cruiser, just not as quick around town. Same mileage as the 9-3 with a larger gas tank for more range. You feel that it carefully engineered by Saab and was built to compete with the 5 series BMW, while the 9-3 is a 3 series competitor. I had zero problems in 2 years with the Aero 2001 wagon I had. I highly recommend that car. You can always buy a Linnear and upgrade to the Aero sway bars, which are available on genuinesaab.com. I traded for a 2003 9-3 Vector and often wish I kept the 9-5. It is a much better family car, and the Linnear is an incredible deal.
