I've been married almost 3 year and I like marriage and love my wife.
The other's mentions of engine parts and "preventative maintenance" parts are very good advice too, but won't help you with wheels. Safety is also a good reason for upgrades and makes logical sense because you are a Saab owner. Won't help with the wheel upgrade though.
Perhaps your car needs more than one pair of shoes? That metaphor might work in some households.
You should convince her to appreciate antique furniture as a longterm oriented policy. Then it's a one-time expense. You need some furniture eventually. She searches high and low and finds a good deal on it and hopefully saves some dough (part of the art of the hobby). Then she and you get it, and it's special and unique and has character, she'll never want to replace it. We have a hand-me-down five-legged oak kitchen table that we're apt to keep forever because "they don't make um like they used to". Keep it in good condition and you'll get more for it than it cost you, instead of tossing it in the landfill or lawnsaling it.
I have a checking account which I use to pay taxes, mortgage, heat, dining out, and car expenses. She has a checking account to pay for phone, groceries, savings, electricity, her college bills. Dividing up the expensive monthly tasks according to our ability to earn works out well and makes for a very simple budget for both of us, We do as we wish with whatever we each may earn more than we need, whether it be something charitible or some crazy car parts or electronic parts. We don't have to rationalize/justify these purchases with each other but we do talk about them as openness is a good policy. Obviously this would not work without some changes if one us had changing employment status. Probably too late for you to change this now at your household.
We're both similarly skilled at budgeting and other household finance.
If someone were bad at handling money, the better financially trained spouse do the right thing and would probably take over the task, which appears she has taken over the task in your house. Perhaps if she thinks she's better at handling the money than you, you could brush up your finance skills in a quicky adult ed financial class, impress her, and get to handle and make more decisions with the money.
If you had a small business that owned your Saab or other cars or expensive machines, you could buy parts for it at the end of the year with some "tax justifications" that might make better sense than furniture.
Since used Saabs depreciate fast and are relatively inexpensive after a certain age, I have multiple. A young non-car-enthusiast lady asked why I had yet another car, implying that more than two cars for two people is pointless excess. I asked her how many pairs of shoes she had. End of conversation, as she'd gained a valuable understanding.
