My '94 9000CS was getting old and cranky, so I stopped at a Lincoln dealership to look at an LS with manual trans. Nice car. Handed them my 9000's keys so they could 'evaluate the trade' (IOW, two guys get in, blast around the block at the highest speed they can, and smoke a cigarette or two).
The salesguy, with a wide tie, mismatched jacket and pants, says "ok, let's deal, here's the price". I say "sure, I like the LS, and the price is pretty good, but I really need to think about it. I'm on my lunch hour, so I need to get going. My keys, please".
The salesguy says "well, you like the car, the price is right, let's make a deal". I say "not right now, I have to get going. I'll think it over tonight".
The salesguy says "no need to think it over. It is the right car. You look great in it (!). What do we have to do to make the deal right now?".
Now I am getting upset. I say "I don't want to do anything right now. Can I have my keys please?".
He stands up and holds them over his head. Really. He is trying to get me to jump up and get them. He says "you can't have your keys until you tell me what it will take to make the deal".
I say "there is *nothing* you can do to make a deal now. I would NEVER buy a Lincoln. I will never set foot in this dealership every again".
He just grins, dangling the keys.
I remember that cool feature in the 9000 where they put a plastic emergency key in the glove compartment. I walk out the door, get in the car, and drive away using the emergency key.
About a half hour later, I get a call from the sales manager. He says "we have your keys you know". I tell him that his salesguy is a dinosaur, that while I was considering an LS, I would never again, and he better have someone drive the keys over to my office ASAP.
About 10 minutes later the office guard calls and says my keys are on the front desk.
The salesguy then has the audacity to call the next day and ask when I am coming in to take another test drive...
