...as my Dad owns one and I have driven it several times. The outside is indeed ugly all around...but the inside is nice. And I think the VW is ugly too--maybe slightly better looking than the Porsche although given the choice between the 2, I would still take the Porsche because of the much better performance, handling, smoothness...over slightly worse looks...and yes, I have driven the VW V8 too.
And I'd be willing to give up a slight difference in looks for the better drivability because I think all current SUVs are ugly, though Saab may change that opinion. The only SUVs I can think of off the top of my head that I think look good are maybe a circa 1970 Ford Bronco and vintage Land Rovers...though having said all that, I have no interest in owning any SUV...a large AWD wagon would be just fine for me instead of an SUV.
