I was excited when I found this commentary on the Net but reading it proved a letdown. I am not saying it is all-wrong, just a little to simple to my taste. Sure there are laments, and a lot of them are justified IMHO, but there is also a lot of praise for some aspects of GM's takeover. For my part, I was excited about the 9-3SS from day one and it is a 100% GM /Saab product with many of the quirks, as Edward would say. Don't ask me to get excited about the 9-2x or 9-7x (even though the 9-7x will have the quirky key «at the right place»), but that doesn’t mean they will not benefit Saab. The plain fact is Saab cannot survive on a two-car menu, but it cannot please everyone now that it is introducing new models. I remember when Cadillac introduced the CTS, whose styling certainly raised some eyebrows, the thinking was «we cannot capture the entire market for that segment in any case, so let’s make a strong statement that will please those who like it». In hindsight, one must admit the philosophy worked.
What's important is that momentum is building for Saab (and Cadillac for that matter). Just the fact that the editor of Automotive news find's it relevant to write a comment on Saab is good news, albeit I think his comment is overly simplistic.
Happy Holidays to all
