1. An older PC that I have (an HP Vectra) is equipped with a Pentium Pro 200 MHz processor and 256 Meg RAM. I'm thinking of taking the Linux plunge, but before I do I was thinking of upping its power a bit, since some Linux applications seem to require 300 MHz minimum. How can I gauge the max speed processor that I can plug into the motherboard? Is it based on RAM speed or something else?
2. I assume that processors other than the latest 2 GHz+ must be fairly inexpensive by now, right? Any suggested sources?
3. Any good forums to recommend for Linux semi-novices? I have worked with Linux before, but not extensively and I've never set up a machine.
