I went to pick up my '92 9000 turbo from having a pedal potentiometer from my local indy mechanic; while I was there, he asked me my opinion of a new computer (still in box). I asked him what was wrong with his old one, and he listed some things that were behaving flaky. I looked at his machine a bit, and found that it was running Windows Me (Millenium Edition), to which I said :
Me: "There's your problem! Windows Me just kind of falls apart after a while, it's really cruddy."
Mechanic : "That windows is no good? I thought it was new. What's better?"
Me : "Windows Me is the 2.5L V6 of the windows world. You don't want it, not even if someone gives it to you for free."
Mechanic : "Now I know what you're talking about!"
This of course stews in my head for a bit, and I realize, the analogy is erily perfect :
Windows XP Pro : 2.3L (B234R)
Windows XP Home : 2.3L N/A (B234)
Windows 2000 : 2.3L LPT (B234L)
Windows 2000 Server : 3.0L V6
Windows Me : 2.5L V6
Windows 98 : 2.0L Turbo
Windows 95 : 2.0L N/A
Windows NT : 2.0L 8v
Windows NT Server : 2.0L 8v turbo
Windows 3.11 : V4
DOS : 2-stroke
