I did an amateur test comparo between 4WD & FWD. Few years ago, I had a FWD '95 Pontiac Tansport(FWD) and '98 Chevy Blazer(4WD). Both had similar all season tires. Both were similar in size (probably Blazer was slightly heavier, due to frame on body construction.) One late night after fresh snow fall of around 3 inches, I took the blazer out on the highway. Put it on 4WD. I couldn't take this truck over 60 mph without feeling the truck extremely fidgetty. The truck wasn't tracking that well. Next I took the Transport and drove IT over 75 mph without ANY problems. The van felt confident, straight, & stable. Almost didn't feel like there was any snow at all. From then on, I swear up and down by FWD vehicles. Much to be said about heavy FWD vehicles in adverse conditions. I drive NG900 with Michelin Alpins and a Full set of tools in my vast trunk space now. Wouldn't have it any other way in the Michigan Winter.
