I'll probably get flamed for this around here, but our VWs & HondAcuras have been better in the snow than our '89 900. So while the 900 NEEDED snow tires, the Integra's winter set is 4-season tires in a narrower width. I did the same thing with an '86 Jetta. Our '01 9³ is a lot better this way, & this all seems to follow weight distribution. The '89 900 had less % wt. on the front axle... And it got that much worse when the trunk was full.
Couple of the better snow cars I've had were RWD. An air-cooled VW & a '72 Datsun 510. Of course the VW had about 80% weitht on the driving wheels. The 510 was closer to 50/50, but something made it work really well in snow.
Weight distribution, & alignment matter at least as much as which axle is driven.
