Having had my 1984 C900 since it was new, I needed something sufficiently Saab-ish, and while the 9-5 was fine, they were out of my price range and don't have a hatch. I like the 9-3 but wanted a bit more room. So last Sept, I went for a 96 9000CSE 5 speed, after lots of looking and driving. A 9-3 was the 2nd choice.
I went with a 5 spd because I prefer them, the car is my daily driver and my wife can drive a stick. An auto would have been OK if I budgeted for repairs. But the 5 spd can go south, too.
After 7 months and a few 4 to 7 hour road trips, the 9000 is a light year or two beyond the C900, but still has the great Saab road feel. It's different, but still fine.
Interesting, but a friend who used to have a 99 drove my 9K recently and said it really felt like a Saab. He loved it, and said it was a better road car than his E300 Merc.
And as for naming cars....My C900 is Sven, and the 9000 is Griffin. I used to name my VWs, but not the late, unlamented Volvo 940 T Wagon. I do refer the to my wife's Explorer as the Exploder. The kids call it Big Red.
N
Saabs, unlike other marques, have personalities. So they deserve names.
