time for some venting

OK, it's time to vent some steam: Tonight while driving home from work I noticed a billboard for the new Mazda 6 5-door! Its a 4-door with a hatchback!
How is it that Mazda, who has no real track record of making mid-size hatchbacks, can decide to offer both a 4-door sedan AND a 4-door hatchback version of their new 6 car, yet SAAB (known for hatchbacks yet never spent the time to advertise its benefit over sedans), decides to abandon the hatchback in the new 9-3?! Why couldn't they have offered both versions like Mazda?
I my opinion, making a me-too 4 door sedan, which feels more like a German car than a Swedish car (especially those stiff seats and low seat height), in an attempt to compete in a market segment dominated by the Audi A4 (which is simply a better looking car) and the BMW 3 series, is no way to revitalize a brand name.
Am I alone in thinking this?
