I had LASIK done about a year ago, and my experience has been very positive.

I found the procedure to be a bit more frightening than Dennis, but then I wasn’t even able to get contacts in my eye when I tried several years ago, so I’m a little sensitive about the eyes. Basically, it feels very, very weird, and mentally uncomfortable but not painful. Warning in advance incase the doc doesn’t tell you – you can actually smell the cornea burning J

Recovery was quick and easy and my vision is now close to 20/15. It really is a life changing experience, and it feels great to not need glasses. I terms of negatives, my eyes do sometime feel a bit dry so I have to put drops in them occasionally. I also feel like I get things in my eye more often now; or more likely when something gets in my eye it is more irritating. I guess this could be psychological though. Note that my eye site wasn’t terrible to begin with, which I think minimizes side effects.

I would recommend finding a doctor with the best reputation possible and don’t put too much of an emphasis on price. The procedure doesn’t seem “difficult” from a medical perspective, but I’m glad that my doc was very experience and a bit of a pioneer in the field. Wavefront seems to be the big thing now, and I considered holding out for it, but with my not-terrible vision I don’t think it would have made a huge difference.

My insurance (Blue Cross Blue Shield at the time) covered ~$1500 of the cost, though it was still expensive (but then so is a lifetime of glasses or contacts). Thinking about it, it cost more than my 9k, though that doesn’t take much J

Overall, I would definitely recommend the procedure.
