Highly controversial question (or so I'm told)... Posted by Clay McNeely [Email] (#497) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Clay McNeely) on Thu, 22 Apr 2004 12:25:32 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Hello, everyone. I realize that I'm probably going to start a wild-fire on this bulletin board, but I need some advice. As most of you are aware, I'm about to become the owner of a 1996 900 SE Turbo. In the past, I was advised to never ask what type of oil or gas to use, as it would only constitute heated debate and no real answers. Please, keep it civil. :-) What brand/type of oil would you recommend? The car is a 5-speed with 104,000 miles and will be driven in warmer climates (Middle Tennessee and Texas Panhandle) for the most-part. According to the previous owner, conventional oil had been used for awhile until a slight knocking became present. The car was then switched over to synthetic, the knocking subsided, and all has been well since then. I used Valvoline Max Life 10W-30 on my high-mileage 1990 900 Turbo, but I'm not sure that's what I should stick with anymore. I have come to the conclusion that the Purolator PureOne PL10241 oil filter is the best bet, as opposed to the FRAM Tough Guard I currently use on my C900. Also, where can I purchase the oil/oil filter and how much should I expect to pay? I'm not wanting to cut any corners with the NG900, so any advice is greatly appreciated. Another question I have is concerning sludge. I've never had any experience with this and know very little in regard to such. What is sludge, where is it, what does it do, how can I prevent it, how do I know if I have it, how do I get rid of it, etc.? Remember, I'm looking for advice and suggestions...please keep the verbal wars to a minimum. :-) Thanks in advance, drive safely, and KEEP ON SAABING!!!
