Thanks for the refresher, Anders. I found an old post of yours in which this is detailed. See link below if curious.
What I don't get is this: why would Saab say replace every 30k while under warranty but then say every 60k after you have the update? (1)Just to cover their butts? or (2)Because most of the cars were reaching high-mileage stage anyway making this point irrelevant. I guess I just have to decide how much time I want to spend worrying about it! :)
Suppose you got an updated tensioner and belt installed at 65k. Then the 95k change would not be necessary according to Saab, but they would pay for it anyway.
I'm definitely replacing my tensioner every 60k. In fact I had been thinking I would replace my tensioner and belt every 30k. But that sounds like overkill now and it is obviously expensive ($400+ in parts) if not needed. I still have to think about whether I am comfortable letting the belt go 60k or now.
