You said it well, and I agree with it all. I would only add that some officers -- in addition to enlisted men as you mention - served as heroically. When I was a USAR field artillery lieutenant (1970-71) I knew officers who would rather have been anywhere else doing anything else, but we did our best do what was asked of us. Ironically, I volunteered (checked the famous box that some high-ranking politicians chose not to check) for VN, but was not sent. I will always wonder how I would have served, but many of my friends were sent and did not dishonor themselves or us.
Tillman was a Ranger. I'm sure that's the epitaph he would have wanted us to use. All the money means nothing now.
