I understand his frustration. Usually the EPA rating is lower than what you'll actually see. He's only got 4k miles on the car? Is there a break-in period that he has to get thru? And how is he driving it? (I haven't read his blog yet.)
Where do Saabs fit into this picture? That 31.4 mpg he's getting is a heck of a lot better than what we see in our '99 9³! My wife gets about 20 mpg if she sticks to mostly city driving, so the Civic hybrid is getting more than 50% better mpg than what we see. And it's most likely got better "city manners" than the 9³ (that is, better start/stop characteristics than our heavy car with a 4 cyl turbo). Still, it's disappointing to see those kinds of numbers on a hybrid.
