I have worked with Alstate before -- the initial check means nothing. An independant certified appraiser will come up with a better figure and you can use him for a diminshed value claim down the road which you will most certainly want to do (but you can only get the DV payout if you own the car or have a normal loan -- no leases). Don't bother with a diminished value claim if you are leasing.

When you take it to the shop and nitpick all these things the tab will build up. A good shop is key here -- they will than go back to the Allstate appraiser and re-adjust the amount. Thats when you point out the wind noise etc.

There is no way $1800 will cover this. It cost $3300 to fix the rear end of my wifes 88 Jeep Cherokee a few years ago in a similar accident. An import would cost twice that.

Email me if you want more info. I know Allstates tricks. Overall it worked out, but it was painful getting there.
