DIC and Maytag Neptune washer made by same company???? Posted by SWEDECAR [Email] (#112) [Profile/Gallery] (more from SWEDECAR) on Thu, 17 Jun 2004 09:18:15 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
The cross connection here is failing electronics.
I bought the top of the line Maytag Neptune front loaded washer/dryer combo when they came out in 97 (because I'm used to front loaded washers from Sweden).
About 3-4 years later the spin cycle stopped working and the repairman diagnosed it being a burned motor control board (one resistor burned).
This is pretty much a printed circuit board with a whole bunch of resistors, transformers and other crap that the washer need to operate all the different motors.
The repair guy also told me to replace a latch/switch unit for the door since that one was probably the cause of the burned resistor.
Had those two parts replaced to the song of $400.00 and everything has been working fine until now.
Mind you, the machine cost $950.00 when I bought it in 97, steep yes, but I thought I was worth it.
Now the spin cycle is dead. Same resistor on the circuit board burned again.
This time I can get the parts online for about $220.00 and install them myself.
I went online yesterday and did some researched. Found some great information about where to buy parts online, but also a bulletine board were poster after poster wrote about their experiance with this brand/model of washers.
It just went on and on with people talking about that the motor control board and burned resistor together with latch/switch assembly had been replaced (sometimes several times).
It also mentioned a mold/mildew problem (which I also have had since the beginning).
A lawyer was even working on a class action lawsuite against Maytag for these faults.
Well, moral of the story. I guess all manufacturers use cheesy parts or bad designs from time to time in the chase of making it as inexpensive or high tech as possible.
I don't know if I dare to buy the new Maytag washer out now that they say is better. It even have a TV screen/touchpad where you do your selection and you can pick from if your clothes has grass stains or grease stains.
Does anyone even know how the machine can operate differently if you pick grass or grease stains (what if I have two pieces of garments with one of each)??????????
End of rant
