Great deals backfire?...... Posted by Mike Lynch [Email] (#81) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Mike Lynch) on Wed, 23 Jun 2004 14:09:48 In Reply to: shady dealer..., James D, Wed, 23 Jun 2004 13:11:14 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
That phenomona has always amused me. I think it's more or a half full vs half empty kind of a thing. That and car dealers have a reputation, which some have earned. Folks are very guarded and wary during the shopping and buying process. Good news make them suspicious.
It is fair for a dealer to advertise one car and one car only at a particular price, but IMHO it's not a good practice, as it sets a buyer back on their heels when the advertised car is not the equipment or color they want.
BTW, it's the second year for 9-3SS' and the bugs, what few there were, have been worked out. Waiting for a better deal is that half full half empty thing again. Get yours now while there is a decent selection.
And the perception that a 2003 should be an even better deal has two kinks. The first is that 2003 was a fabulous Saab year fueled by the new 9-3SS and there are none left that aren't genuinely used. And then say you can get another 10% off or whatever on a 2003, is that really a better deal for a year older car? If you're out of your price range for a new 2004 that may be the only way to go, but generally people who buy last years model don't ask how much a new one is.
And number two is that Saab is not kind to Saab dealers about last years cars. Often current incentives exceed any end of the year allowance on last years cars. Or as I mentioned, if the 2003 is cheaper than the 2004, is it really a better "deal" overall.
