The trouble with questions is that you don't know if the other person is lying. Or at least merely misleading.
Is the reason they're selling it reasonable? Yes. Could it be because they just found out the clutch needs to be redone? Yes- and she still is pregnant.
The two questions I would ask are "what maintenance have you done" and "what maintenance was done by the previous owner." Yes, they had the alternator and brakes. What about oil changes, fluid flushes, etc? Since they are the 'pass through' owner, the previous owner of the car is even more important. If they bought the car with no maintenance records, that's exactly the same as you buying it no maintenance records. 8 months of good care won't make up for a bad childhood. So if they have the maintenance records from before, see if they can read them to you, or at least fax over some. If they don't have any maintenance records, I would walk away from this car. I wouldn't recommend buying any car without knowing what has been done (and not done).
You want to know that the Previous Owner at least changed the oil regularly (and frequently - once ever two years is regularly). You want to know that the brake fluid has been flushed every 2-3 years, the coolant on the same schedule, and the thermostat replaced. When was the last time the serpentine belt was replaced, and are the idler pulleys and tensioner original? Have the spark plugs been replaced regularly? Plugs left too long develop large gaps, and large gaps kill DI cassettes.
If there are no records, I wouldn't bother with the Carfax. I hate to say 'keep waiting', but, well, keep waiting. You want the Aero you get to be a joyus experience. If you don't feel comfortable now, go with that feeling.
