We value priced our used cars too when I was with Saturn, just like the new cars, except that we weren't religious about it like the new car folks.
For example, price was price was price on used cars, including a money back guarantee period of 3 days and a 30 day exchange, but if a customer wasn't going to buy that day I would always ask "What did you have in mind?" Often customers just wanted some kind of a break, only a couple of hundred dollars in most cases either off the price or added to the trade and we would generall accomodate them. If you have a decent rapore with the customer you can generally discern what it is they want or need to close the deal. The new car folks hands were often tied, we would rock and roll in used cars, all in a very Saturn like manor of course.
I know Saturn operations that are religious about their used car pricing too, and I know Saturn folks who fudge even on new cars, particularly when they can add it to the trade for an "overallowance".
