Saab and IKEA?

My wife, daughter and I just got back from a trip to Chicago (1700 miles round trip in three days) in our 2003 9-5 Linear. The car was terrific, by the way.
Anyway, we stopped at the IKEA store in Schaumburg on Friday. I had heard about it, but we had never been inside one. We were impressed, and apparently so were the thousands of other people who were shopping there at the same time. It got me thinking as to why this store, that obviously promotes its Swedish/Scandanavian designs (the building is even blue and yellow), is so popular, while Saab sales are relatively weak? The huge IKEA parking lot was filled (and I mean filled) with vehicles with little or no design flair. Maybe Saab needs to do more to promote its Swedish design heritage, or maybe most people are content hauling home an elegant IKEA storage unit in a humdrum Chevy or Toyota.
