Viggen vs. 9-3SS

My Saab dealer gave me a 2001 Dolfin Grey Viggen Convertible for 1 day to try it out. My wife lease on the Beetle is expiring soon and I was trying to push for a Viggen :) The dealer was extremely nice in lending me the car for a whole day. So I left me 9-3SS in their garage and took the Viggen for a spin around the city last evening.
Good:
- Killer looks. Beautiful car. Convertible helps...:)
- Deadly 3rd and 4th gear.
- Beautiful seats.
- Better sound system then my 9-3 SS linear (but that is not hard to achieve....).
- Amazing exhaust rumble.
- Rough, though and unique.
Bad:
- The suspension feels like really, really outdated (crappy) in comparison to the 9-3SS.
- 1st and 2nd gear are useless... unless you like to wheel spin at the stop light.
- TORQUE STEER.
- Bumpy, harsh, unsure, unsafe, uncomfortable ride.
- Gear box vibrates feels, is not precise nor smooth.
- As many rattles as my 9-3SS (which is not a good think...).
- Did I mention TORQUE STEER???
Basically, the problem with the old 9-3 was the suspension. You cannot imagine how much safer, smoother and more refine is the 9-3SS in comparison until you go back and try the old platform 9-3 again.
My 2 Canadian cents.
Joe
