I'm really sorry to hear that. My boys are 2.5 yrs old. They mean the world to me and I can't imagine that day -- although inevitable.
You just have to tell yourself that you made the right decision instead of continuing the suffering or waiting until it got to that point. It's mind-blowing to think that a dog's whole existance and quality of life is in our hands to the point that they depend on us to determine their fate and how they will live out their final days.
Sorry again for your loss, but I hear it does get easier in time.
