As a former Veterinary Technician, I can definitely sympathize. I am so very sorry to hear about your loss. I, too, have lost many pets over the years and I agree that it is a very difficult ordeal to go through. I commend you on making the right decision in the end, however.
There are so many pet owners in this world that refuse to give up on their beloved little one, and that makes it so hard on the Veterinarian, as well as the pet. Both of them know what is best, but the owner simply will not hear of any other options. During my years as a Veterinary Technician, I always had so much more respect for the owner who did the right thing instead of prolonging a life of poor quality. A decision like that shows more love, too.
I know you didn't come here to read my ramblings about past experiences, but I want you to find some comfort in knowing that Delia is no longer in pain and that your actions were undoubtedly appreciated by both your Veterinarian and Delia. As they have all said before, it does get much easier with time. There will never be a replacement, but there will always be another one that captures your heart in that special way that no other can.
Again, I wish to offer my sincerest condolences. Definitely remember the great times, as that is what puts a smile on your face. Drive safely, and KEEP ON SAABING!!!
-Clay McNeely
