We never saw it until after we had pulled over. It was a black dog running across a four lane lower speed highway with no collar. We rushed it to the local emergency vet which was less than a mile away but it passed away on the table. My wife was the driver and was very depressed about it for some time. A local cop came by and assured her she wasn't at fault and she did the right thing by stopping because here in California, pets are property.. Anyway, sorry to hear of your mishap.
