Yea, it's supposed to be private..... Posted by Mike Lynch [Email] (#81) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Mike Lynch) on Fri, 30 Jul 2004 12:58:08 In Reply to: Re: What incentives?, DER, Thu, 29 Jul 2004 20:40:11 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
There's kind of a schism with Saab incentives and within Saab about incentives. The incentives are not public, but private, so that the dealer can deduct them pre tax. If you are Chevy, all of your incentives are public rebates, and you specifically advertise those incentives publicly, but Saab incenitves are private. All you get from Saab is 0% and a lease quote, not an either or cash incentive/rebate. IMO that's a good thing, saving tax.
And should be customer access to this information, publicly? That's the other schism. There's no reason a franchised dealer can't be a little dissappointed when thousands and thousands of dollars in incentives go to the customer instead of the dealers bottom line. It's not such a lucrative thing to be a Saab dealer..
Should the customer know the incentives to motivate them in advance or is it the dealer's job to motivate the customer after a test drive and a selection? Different dealers and Saab folks have equally valid opinions on this.
