It depends not only on your long term goals, but also on how much you like your current working situation.
There's something to be said for the adventure of going into a new situation but, if your wife is going to be out of the workplace for 5 years, you might want to consider the stability of where you are.
Rockwell is a good company - I know guys who work in other divisions of Rockwell and they love their jobs.
And I totally agree with your old boss's words about working under somebody you don't respect.
That all said (and I really hate to say this), sales is where the money is. If you're really good, you might be able to retire very comfortably.
What does your wife think about the additional time you'll have to be away?
