Beautiful place, no doubt about it. Highlights...

-Sunrise at Haleakela- you'll need to get up hours before dawn and bring a coat or heavy jacket, but it's one of the most amazing things I've ever seen.

-Road to Hana- Lush, tropical, and one of the scariest drives of my life. The road isn't bad- the tourist driven SUVs that come screaming around the turns are. Get an early start to avoid the return traffic and you'll enjoy it a lot more. A few VERY nice beaches on that end of the island.

-Upcountry Maui- The ranching towns part way up the volcano are really nice. Very peaceful, green and quiet compared to Lahaina.

-Pa'ia- Next door to Hookipa Beach which is the big North Shore windsurfing spot. Has some of the best shopping on the island, lots of interesting local arts and crafts.

-Snokeling at Molokini- Sure it's a big tourist thing, but there's a reason why. Tons of fish and unbelieveable water visability. I'd never been snorkeling before, but what a way to start!

Lodging- if you want to stay near Lahaina check out "House of Fountains", it's a B&B run by a German woman and her Hawaiian husband. You'll get a really interesting combination of German efficiency and Polynesian culture. They're a little out of the way, but the breakfast was wonderful and they have pretty nice pool.

One last thing, pick up a copy of the "Maui Revealed" guidebook, they won't lead you wrong. Have a great trip!!!
