What the heck is that and what have they got against France?
Paris, I love Paris, is an example of a city very well served by public transit. We had a 5 hour layover in Paris on the way to Gothenberg and took the train into town 30 minutes each way to see the Louve', although I prefer the D'Orsay.
I love driving in Europe, but you can take a train everywhere. Every European city I've been in is more than adequately, sometimes elegantly, served by public transportation and most have large "walking" districts too that you'll want to see and won't be able to take your car.
I loved Gothenberg, over on Swedens west coast, great maritime museum, harbor tours, opera house and walking district. If you're on this BB you'll love the Saab museum and factory tour in Trollhattan, about an hour from Gothenberg, also see the locks near the museum.
Seems almost everyone speaks English in Sweden, more so than anywhere else I've been.
Copenhagen was a 4 hour train ride from Gothenberg and you don't need a car in Copenhagen. Don't miss Tivoli Gardens, Walt Disney's model for Disneyland.
