"Give a bit more info as to what type of experience you are looking for."
I would say that we want medium-grade accomodations or a bit above (certainly not ultimate luxury unless I win the lottery pretty soon) and preferably within an hour drive to various slopes. I'm intermediate in skill whereas my friends are closer to expert so varied terrain is nice. Being close to a city that offers nightlife, good restaurants beyond the ski resort gouging would also be nice but perhaps not doable. Last year we had a blast in Tahoe and got awesome prices on the Hyatt Grand Regency in Incline Village off of Hotwired.com and will likely try the same approach this year. We all have money to spend on this trip, but none of us are going to spring for super luxe accomodations. Thus far from my short amount of research it seems that Banff is the place to stay for accessibility to multiple slopes and a decently nice nightlife and restaurants. Advise if I'm wrong about that.
Thanks everyone, and this is in the initial planning stages so we could still end up in Tahoe or SLC. I've visited Whistler and BC during the offseason and it is jawdroppingly beautiful, though we feel that the limitation of being somewhat forced to stay within the Whistler resort will result in a very expensive trip. That may be an incorrect assumption. We're talking about 3-4 guys who all pretty much would like their own room (or large enough house/condo) to have some privacy.
I asked this question here because I know there's an international audience of like-minded folks, and I got GREAT advice on last year's trip for Tahoe.
