My problem involves the deadly combination of a wife, three teenaged children, and the thermostat. As everyone knows, women do not understand thermostats, so when they feel hot they turn the temperature down to 60 and when they feel cold they turn the temperature up to 80. They also have noses like bloodhounds, compelling the opening of windows to remove the offending odor even in the dead of winter. Add to this the children who do not have any concept of the expense of heating a house in New England (approaching $300 per month these days for me) and who are now tall enough to change the setpoint whenever they feel like it (regularly). My question is this: does anyone know of a programmable thermostat that has password protection so that Dad can take charge of this situation once and for all? Ideal would be one with a simple override for the case when someone is home from school or work sick during the week but NO OTHER TYPE OF ADJUSTMENT POSSIBLE unless you are me.
