You can remove the bottom seats by knocking out the pins. First remove the split washers and then either wiggle them out by hand or use a pair of pliers. I got the idea when a sales rep showed me a 95 wagon and told me that those seat bottoms could be removed for even more space, the only difference I could see was that the 95 pins have a plastic pull tab attached! In the 93 (2002) it makes a whole load of extra space and yes it allows the seats and more importantly the metal bar to go lower and this allows the front seats a bit more room.
